 Cape Cod SCORE presented its 18th annual "Small Business Owner of the Year" award to Eric Barsness of E. A. Barsness & Co., Inc. who was selected from among the many small business clients that come to SCORE for business mentoring. Read details below

The ceremonies took place on May 19th, at SCORE’s annual awards breakfast held at Old Yarmouth Inn, Yarmouthport, MA. Terence Shepherd (pictured right) of Shepherd & Goldstein LLP ROCG Consultants International was the keynote speaker for the event, offering 10 key steps on “How to Strategically Operate Your Business for Better Profitability.
”SCORE gratefully acknowledges Cape Cod Cooperative Bank, Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank and Ritt Communications as a sponsors of the event. The success of the annual Awards Breakfast was the result of the dedicated work by Jim Garpow, a SCORE Mentor.

Established in 2004, E.A. Barsness & Co., Inc. is primarily a remodeling company engaged in all forms of residential remodeling and additions for homeowners on the Cape and Islands. For more than a decade, Eric Barsness has also participated in various local rehabilitation programs in various towns on the Cape. These projects have involved all aspects of housing rehabilitation with the scope of work ranging from minor to extensive. Eric said“ These community development programs have been fulfilling to our team in more than just a monetary way. It’s been wonderful for the whole team to participate in the betterment of houses that are in real distress on behalf of the homeowners in need.” In 2006, The Community Development Corporation of Eastham chose the Company to convert an office building to residential affordable housing units in Chatham. This year long project was a great success for the benefactors, the Community Development Partnership, and the new homeowners. For Barsness & Co., the project built a solid foundation of experience, goodwill, and confidence allowing the company to tackle any size project presented since then. Field knowledge and experience, as well as an extreme emphasis on follow up and communication has cultivated this growth pattern. Breaking through to this new level of business volume has presented many challenges. “As a small business owner, it’s hard to find advisors who can devote time and energy to help you when needed. SCORE can be an invaluable resource for motivation and knowledge.” Eric has taken advantage of benefits provided by Cape Cod SCORE over many years which included the SCORE "Successful Small Business" Workshops at Cape Cod Community College.
